The Priest of Propitiation
A Poem on Psalm 110 and Hebrews 7
The LORD hath said unto my Lord,
“Sit here at my right hand
Until I make your enemies
Your footstool, as I planned.”
Your scepter doth the LORD send forth
From Zion, with His might,
That you may rule your every foe
Though they are ne’er contrite.
The LORD hath sworn and will not change;
His mind is settled firm.
“You are a Priest and King of Peace
Whose office brooks no term.”
The Lord is at your right hand now;
He shatters kings in wrath.
His judgment on the nations is
To pay their debts in death.
But Christ hath bought our only hope–
He offered up Himself for us;
His blood hath paid the price.
